When losses are deep, the required gains to recover become exponentially large. For example, a 10% loss needs only an 11% gain to break even. However, a 30% loss requires a 43% gain, a 50% loss requires a 100% gain, and a 70% loss requires a massive 233% gain to return to the original value.
